Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Statistics of the World ("SOTW", "we", "our"), including statisticsoftheworld.com, its downloads, API, and MCP server, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Description of Service

SOTW provides 334 browsable economic and statistical indicators for 218 countries. We aggregate, normalize, label, and deliver data from public and third-party sources including the IMF, World Bank, WHO, FRED, United Nations, and market-data providers. We also provide charts, comparisons, bulk files, live-market views, an API, and an MCP server.

3. Access Plans

  • Free: Browse the website, download individual tables where offered, and make up to 1,000 API requests/day per IP or free key. A key adds usage tracking.
  • Data Pro ($29/month or $290/year): Download the 277-indicator source-reviewed World Bank bulk bundle and the Forecast Revision Database of archived IMF World Economic Outlook releases, and make up to 10,000 API and MCP requests/day.
  • API Pro ($49/month or $490/year): Includes Data Pro plus up to 50,000 API and MCP requests/day and email support.
  • Team and Enterprise (custom): Contracted limits, delivery, support, or redistribution terms where the underlying source rights permit them.

Rate limits reset daily at midnight UTC. Exceeding a limit returns a 429 response. We may use reasonable technical controls to prevent abuse and protect service availability.

4. Data Sources, Rights, and Attribution

Your subscription purchases access to SOTW's normalization, compilation, refresh, delivery, rate limits, and support. It does not transfer ownership of public facts or grant rights beyond those provided by the original data source.

  • Source-specific terms and attribution continue to apply to all data, including when the data is used commercially or redistributed.
  • API and MCP read access does not remove sources when you upgrade. Responses include source and reuse metadata so you can evaluate your intended use.
  • Bulk downloads and redistribution products include only series whose current source terms permit that delivery. Data Pro covers two such bundles: 277 reviewed World Bank indicators, and the archived IMF World Economic Outlook panel, each shipped with its own source notice.
  • API and MCP responses may contain sources with different permissions. Review the attribution and source metadata returned with the response before using it in a product or publication.
  • You are responsible for confirming that your intended use complies with each source's current terms. SOTW's source notice is informational and is not legal advice.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Share, resell, or sublicense your API key, account, subscription, or access to SOTW's service.
  • Redistribute data without complying with the original source's terms and required attribution.
  • Attempt to circumvent rate limits, authentication, billing, or security measures.
  • Use automated tools to scrape the website when an equivalent API endpoint is available.
  • Misrepresent SOTW's compilation or third-party data as your own original research.
  • Use the service in a way that materially degrades availability for other users.

6. Data Accuracy

SOTW aggregates third-party data and may contain delays, revisions, gaps, or errors. The service is provided "as is" without guarantees of completeness, timeliness, or correctness. SOTW is not a financial adviser, and you should not make investment or other high-stakes decisions based solely on this service.

7. Payment and Billing

Paid subscriptions are billed through Stripe on the interval selected at checkout. You may cancel at any time; access continues until the end of the current billing period. Refunds are handled case by case. We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice to existing subscribers.

8. API Keys

Keep your API key confidential and do not place it in public client-side code or repositories. Contact us if a key is compromised. We may revoke keys that violate these terms.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SOTW is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of the service, including data inaccuracies, downtime, lost revenue, or business interruption.

10. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these terms, security risks, non-payment, or material harm to the service. You may stop using the service or cancel a paid subscription at any time.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected by the date above. Continued use after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
