SOTW · OPEN DATA

Open economic data, free to download and reuse.

One CSV holds every reading of the high-frequency series on Statistics of the World whose source licences are open: commodity prices, exchange rates, US Treasury yields, consumer prices, jobs, output, trade and energy. You may copy, change, share and sell it, including in commercial work, as long as you credit the sources and us.

observations.csv
Every stored reading: series code, country or area, period, value, status flag and the licence of its source. It is large, so pandas, R or DuckDB suit it better than a spreadsheet.
datapackage.json
A Frictionless Data Package describing the CSV (columns, types, licences and sources) and listing every series in it with its name, unit, frequency, publisher, licence and the credit line to keep. Tools that read data packages load the CSV from it.

How you may use it

Our own work on these files (choosing and cleaning the series, codes, labels and metadata) is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0). Each reading keeps the licence of its source, named in its licence column, and the series list in datapackage.json gives the credit line for each series. When you share the data, or work made from it, credit Statistics of the World and the source, and say what you changed.

Our Terms of Service add no conditions to these files beyond the credit their licences ask for.

Suggested credit: Statistics of the World, open high-frequency series, statisticsoftheworld.com/open-data, with the sources named in the series list.

What is in it, and what is not

The file covers the high-frequency series: daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly readings, plus a few annual forecast series. Series whose licences we have not confirmed as open are not in it; they stay readable on the site and through the API with their own source and attribution. The annual country indicators are not part of this file.

The files are built from our database each time you download them, so they hold the latest stored readings. Sources revise their figures, and series are added when their licences have been reviewed.
