Frequently asked questions

Isn't the underlying data free?

Yes. You pay SOTW for normalization, a consistent schema, weekly refreshes, attribution metadata, delivery, rate limits, and support. You are not buying ownership of public facts.

Can I use the data commercially?

API and MCP read access includes the same published catalog on every tier, with source and reuse metadata attached. Two bundles are cleared for paid bulk delivery: 277 World Bank indicators reviewed against their current per-indicator metadata, and the Forecast Revision Database of archived IMF World Economic Outlook projections. They ship as separate files with separate source notices, because their terms differ. Every other source can be read and cited through the API but stays out of paid bulk delivery unless its terms permit it. Provider attribution and source-specific terms always apply, and IMF data is available free of charge from the IMF.

Does API Pro include Data Pro?

Yes. API Pro includes the full Data Pro download bundle as well as the higher API and MCP allowance.

What is the Forecast Revision Database?

Most providers overwrite a forecast when it is revised, so only the current one survives. This keeps all of them. It holds 34 archived IMF World Economic Outlook releases from April 2008 to April 2025, covering 196 countries and 6 indicators across 1.25M+ rows. Each row is what one release published at the time, so you can measure how far ahead a downturn was visible or how much a projection moves before the year arrives. Rows also carry a horizon column separating genuine forecasts from releases restating a year that had already happened. Coverage follows the IMF: countries it does not publish, such as several small territories, have no panel and no forecast page section. Where a country does have history, its current-year revisions are free to read; the paid bundle is the whole panel as one file, plus ?full=1 on the API.
