About labor productivity
Output per worker divides GDP by everyone in work, whatever their hours. Countries where people work fewer hours a year look less productive on this measure than on output per hour worked, which the World Bank does not publish for most countries.
Purchasing power parity removes differences in price levels, and constant prices remove inflation, so the figures can be compared across countries and over time. Countries rich in oil and gas, where a small workforce extracts very valuable resources, can rank high without a broadly productive economy.
About these figures
Definition. GDP per person employed is gross domestic product (GDP) divided by total employment in the economy. Purchasing power parity (PPP) GDP is GDP converted to 2021 constant international dollars using PPP rates. An international dollar has the same purchasing power over GDP that a U.S. dollar has in the United States. (The publisher's definition of “GDP per person employed (constant 2021 PPP $)”, copied from the World Bank (World Development Indicators) on 2026-09-07.)
Unit. constant 2021 international dollars per employed person (PPP)
Coverage. 177 of 217 countries and territories have a figure. 168 of 177 countries show 2025; the other 9 show their latest available year (2021 to 2024).
The median and any other summary on this page count each country once, so they are not world averages. Values are rounded for display; the CSV download has full precision.
The publisher revises past years when it updates the series, so a figure here can change after it first appears.

- The download button above saves this table's rows as CSV, filtered and in the order shown. The API also serves this indicator as CSV: statisticsoftheworld.com/api/v1/rankings/SL.GDP.PCAP.EM.KD?format=csv. It lists the stored latest figures highest first under the publisher's country names and can include the World aggregate, so its rows and ranks can differ from this table.
