Quantitative Tightening (QT)
Definition
Central bank balance sheet reduction — selling bonds or letting them mature without reinvestment, the reverse of QE.
Explanation
The Fed began QT in 2022 after its $9T balance sheet peaked. QT removes liquidity, raising long-term rates and tightening financial conditions. Done too quickly, it can cause market disruptions.
