Estimated new malaria cases per 1,000 population at risk per year. Population at risk means people living where malaria transmission occurs, not the whole national population. WHO adjusts surveillance for care-seeking, reporting and case confirmation and uses prevalence-based modelling where appropriate.
Measurement basis: WHO estimates from adjusted malaria surveillance and prevalence-based models, with a population-at-risk denominator.

- Estimated new malaria cases per 1,000 population at risk per year. The denominator is people living in areas with malaria transmission, not the whole national population.
- The exact WHO incidence definition identifies supplied bracketed ranges as 95% uncertainty intervals. This applies only to this incidence series; missing endpoints stay absent and no uncertainty level is borrowed for malaria deaths.
- Positive estimates can have publisher display 0. Preserve original numeric precision and genuine source zeros separately; a rounded display is not a less-than threshold or an exact zero.
- Source-country histories have real gaps and different latest years. Keep unreported years unreported; calendar tags do not justify filling them, carrying forward a value or borrowing a legacy reading.
- French Guiana (GUF) and Mayotte (MYT) remain separate raw source geographies excluded from app rows without remapping. Source Date does not establish an official observation publication vintage.
