About This Indicator

Definition

Current health expenditure as a percentage of GDP. Includes both public and private spending on health services, medical goods, public health programs, and health administration, but excludes capital investment in health infrastructure.

Methodology

Data is compiled from the WHO Global Health Expenditure Database, which uses the System of Health Accounts (SHA 2011) framework. National health accounts track financial flows from funding sources (government, insurance, out-of-pocket) through financing agents to health care providers and functions.
